Stuck
I was stuck in life, battling bipolar depression and taking six different medications. I was on the brink of ending it all.
The truth was I had a void inside me that couldn’t be filled. I tried to numb the pain with anything the world could offer: drugs, alcohol, porn, gambling, toxic relationships, video games and food. Each one felt good for a while and left the void in my soul right where it was.
My parents spent thousands of dollars as a last-ditch effort to get my life back. They bought hours and hours of therapy, medication and counseling. Over time it got worse, to the point where I was admitted to a mental hospital.
Eventually the thought hit me. Was I supposed to take medication and continue therapy for the rest of my life, feeling slowed down, overweight and barely able to focus? I felt like a zombie, dragging myself through the motions. There had to be another way.
One fateful encounter
One ordinary day, one encounter changed everything. Ready to end it all, I drove to the lake. In one final act of desperation I cried out: “God, if You’re real, make the voices in my head stop.”
The next words out of my mouth were “Jesus. Jesus.” In that very moment my mind went silent. For the first time in two years there was no noise, no clutter, no voices.
Then a verse came to mind, Jeremiah 29:14.
“I will be found by you,” says the LORD. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”Jeremiah 29:14
I sat there in awe. God was real, and He was there to restore my life.
The Champion’s journey
That day didn’t fix things overnight, but it changed the direction of my life. God began to send mentors. It started with an old friend from high school who brought me back into the gym. As my body grew stronger, my mind began to heal, and I was able to stop taking medication completely.
Another mentor invited me into church and Bible study, and I started reading the Bible every single day. Little by little, God restored my mind, body and spirit. The weight of depression lifted. The fog cleared. My grades improved. I started to become who God created me to be: a Champion in Christ. I went on to graduate college in three years.
The true test
After college there had to be something more. The habits that saved me, waking up early, reading the Bible, cold showers, books, training, were going to help people. I just didn’t know how.
Then something happened again. A freak accident, a three-foot fall, and a broken shoulder blade and scapula. In the days after surgery I lay on my couch unable to do anything. I was truly stuck again. Night after night I couldn’t sleep, my mind running through the past and the future. I lost my sense of purpose once more.
Reminded of what I had been through in college, the thought came to surrender it all to Jesus. I accepted that I had been knocked down, and I had the choice to trust God and let Him work in me again. Life was out of my control. All I could do was trust that He had a path forward.
Over time He led me into physical therapy and into the world of trading. Through trading I learned about business, investing and how to make money online. But money without purpose felt empty too. I needed something more than money. I needed a mission.
How Life Phyte was born
I was reminded of the verse God gave me at the lake years before. God didn’t want to restore only me. He was calling me to help restore others: people stuck where I once was, battling depression, addiction and purposelessness. People with passion but no path. People who needed someone to show them how to turn their trials into testimonies.
That was my life purpose, and that is how Life Phyte was born. Not as a business. As a mission: to raise up a generation of Champions in Christ who live aligned with their God-given purpose and leave a legacy that lasts.
